A/C Bypass Mod
the total cost for this mod is about 40 dollars
what it is you get a shorter belt and run past your air conditioner and two idler pulleys, also cleans up the look of the motor
this is for 99-04 gt's i am unsure but believe it will work on 96-98 gts as well, unsure on 4v status
items required
1999-2004 v6 mustang tensioner pulley, 6 rib, not the whole arm just the pulley any local parts store should be able to find it for you no problem
70.5" serpentine belt you can find one here
and one washer that is pretty thin and fits over the nub on the front cover(cant remember the name right now) to push the pulley away some so that it does not rub, but not so far that it messes the alignment up
begin by removing the current belt
next remove the tensioner arm, yes its spring loaded but it is internal so nothing pops out at you, this was one of my fears pulling it off, just ask matt
next remove the pulley from the tensioner, you probably need to use air tools and a vice for this
replace the smooth pulley with the 6 rib pulley you just bought, place the washer onto the back of the tensioner and reattach to thje motor
you can remove the a/c pulley and the two small pulleys if you want or you can leave them there, i left the a/c pulley on so that i can return it to stock much quicker, but removed the other two as they are much more visible and look out of place without the belt running through them
begin by feeding the new belt behind the pulley, i had matt hold the belt in place while i attached the tensioner arm then feed the smooth side over the top of the water pump, back around to the crank, over to the power steering pump, and lastly to the alternator pulley
like so

I know this is from 08 but I can't resist. Sorry. But even with the AC turned on, as soon as that pedal hits WOT the AC is shut off and is now nothing but an idler pulley. Return from WOT and it comes back on. You can log this with a scan tool or other logging device by watching for the "WOT AC Cutoff" PID.
All this does is cost you a new belt, the inconvenience of no AC, and causes more difficulty when you have to replace the belt now that you basically have to remove the tensioner to remove the belt. Zero gains. Unless you remove the AC system entirely, then you get a bit of weight loss, but only a little bit.

lol, we were younger, dumber. We now enjoy AC and wouldn't think about getting rid of it on the cars we drive everyday.
